Welcome to the West Hempstead Water District

The West Hempstead Water District has delivered a reliable, safe and high-quality water supply to the residents, businesses and schools of the community since 1926. Our water is pumped from 7 wells drilled into the Magothy Aquifer beneath Long Island. Our three storage tanks have a total storage capacity of 3.1 million gallons and we maintain over 125 miles of water mains.

The District encompasses approximately two square miles, including a majority of West Hempstead, all of Garden City South and a large portion of Franklin Square, serving over 32,000 people.

For more information about the District, visit our about page or contact us page.

During the next few weeks, our service crews will be out in the District testing the integrity of all the fire hydrants as part of our semi-annual main flushing/hydrant integrity program.  Don’t be alarmed if you see multiple hydrants opened at one time.  Our service crews have a log of which hydrants they are currently testing.  If service crews finds a hydrant that needs to be repaired or replaced, it is logged and scheduled for maintenance.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the District at (516) 483-1180.
