We are pleased to inform the residents and business owners within the West Hempstead Water District (WHWD) that work has begun on our new, state-of-the-art water tower at our Birch Street facility, and the construction is on schedule.

The foundation has been poured, and the cylindrical pedestal will be rising slowly throughout the spring and summer, climbing to a height of 165 feet.

The 1,000,000–gallon “bowl” will be welded and placed on top of the pedestal by early fall.
“This is an exciting time for the District,” according to Chairman of the Board C. John
Sparacio. “Our consumers are seeing their bond dollars at work as the tower continues to rise. The West Hempstead Water District will have a new landmark tank that will hold one million gallons of water. This tank replaces the old tank that was constructed in 1939 and held 750,000 gallons.”

Once complete and online, this pedestal tank, more commonly known as a composite tank, will be the first of its kind on Long Island.
